What is Google Translation?

Google Translation is a free web-based translation service offered by Google. It is a tool to translate a text, article or website into a different language. It was first used in April 28, 2006 for the Arabic language translation. In October 2007, other languages like Chinese and Russian were also made usable. Google Translation used a SYSTRAN based translator which is the same program used by other translation tools like Babel Fish and AOL.

Like other translation tools, Google Translation also has its limitations. Even though it can aid the user in figuring out the general content of a foreign language, it does not always provide accurate translations. With all language translations offered by Google Translation, French to English translation is one which is the most accurate. The tool also limits the number of paragraphs and the range of technical terms that can be translated.

Nevertheless, Google translation also have some good things like for foreign languages, users are asked for different translations to be added for future updates. Not only that, articles in a foreign language can be typed, and if you don't know what language it is you can select the "Detect Language" option and translate it into English automatically.

In addition, there are a number of Firefox add ons prepared for Google Translation. Same is true for Google Chrome browser. In February 2010, Google Translation was integrated into the standard Google Chrome browser for automatic page translation.

In August 2008, Google also made Google Translation accessible for iPhone users. However, the official Google Translation iPhone app was released last February 8, 2011. It allows voice input for 15 languages and translates a text in about 50 languages.

Since Google Translation makes use of statistical matching instead of using a dictionary or grammar rules when translating, the translated phrases most of the time became way off and nonsensical.

Is Google Translation Accurate

I was directed by my immediate superior to a create an article about the seven wonders of the world as my special output. He gave me one day to have it done however I knew I will run out of time.

I already got a thought of what to write however I'm doubtful on where to begin.

Actually I created an outline with many of wrongs, also a little bit of sentence and grammar order. To make it a little easy for me, I started first all the words in Filipino then I encoded the entire article in the google translator for the translation. As a matter of fact, I really had a second thought because I'm wondering "Is Google translation accurate?" or "How accurate is it?" was not sure on how accurate is google translator. I've heard a lot from my colleagues that this google translate is really very helpful although it does not give an accurate result because often, the translation is word by word and not by context.

An hour before the day ended, was wrap up with the article. I made the final project with images and notes. What eaten up most of my time was actually the research that I've done because I don't have enough data on the subject, but still, I was able to make it almost perfect.
